Summary

CIRCLE will demonstrate at industrial scale a first-of-its-kind retrofitted biorefinery designed to valorise food waste streams and additional biomass into high-value products. The project focuses on leveraging this unique infrastructure to upgrade an existing biogas plant, specifically generating lactic acid (LA) and its associated derivatives such as polylactic acid (PLA). This approach represents a significant operational improvement for the existing facility by increasing production capacity and diversifying outputs.
